Welcome JFS

A special shoutout today to the visionaries behind the creation of Jewish Federation’s office building. While designing space for Federation’s needs, a decision was made to include room for other Jewish organizations without permanent offices, as well as to set aside room for expansion if and when it became desirable.

Since day one, ADL’s World of Difference and the Holocaust Survivors & Friends Education Center have been housed in our building. For periods of time, we have also enjoyed having a Hadassah office, a JERNY office, and space for the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

Additionally, we have an open offer to all Jewish organizations and organizations with Jews, as long as their missions do not conflict with our mission, to use our available conference facilities when needed. Over the years, organizations that regularly use our space include: the Capital District Board of Rabbis, Colonie Chai Jewish Center, Jewish Genealogy Society, Knights of Pythias, Prison Chaplains of NYS, Israel Bonds, and Jewish National Fund. Even those organizations with their own buildings have used our space when convenient to do so, including Hebrew Academy, JCCs, Daughters of Sarah, and some synagogues.

With that as the backdrop, today I welcome Jewish Family Services (JFS) to its new home here at 184 Washington Avenue Extension. After many years on Madison Avenue in Albany, JFS has moved its administrative offices here and the clinical and NNORC workplaces to Temple Israel in Albany. We look forward to continuing our close working relationship with our valuable community partner.
